Sam worked in public accounting in New Jersey and Pennsylvania for several years and got his certificate in public accounting in Pennsylvania.
He worked for 15 years as the assistant vice president for finance at a university in Philadelphia, while at the same time running a small accounting practice, Eckhardt Accounting Associates, in Langhorne, Pa.
Upon moving to Florida, Sam took a position as an audit group supervisor for the Florida Department of Revenue. His work included supervising auditors, assigning audits, reviewing audits, holding post audit conferences with taxpayer representatives, teaching the various tax laws and audit procedures to department compliance auditors. He worked in Tallahassee reviewing other service center’s audits and developed audit procedures for several unique business types. Sam frequently gave seminars to several industry associations and was an adjunct instructor in the local community college teaching businessmen and accountants the sales and use tax law as it applied to various business types.
In 1996, Sam realized that most taxpayers knew very little about how to comply with the law as it applied to their businesses and that the accounting professionals didn’t know much more. Seeing the need for competent, effective, and reasonably-priced representation, he left the state of Florida and started Biz Tax Pros. Sam is the author and publisher of a book titled Plain Talk About Florida Sales Tax.
Troy Eckhardt, EA was raised in the atmosphere of the office from the time he could stand in the playpen.
Educated at Stetson University in DeLand, FL, he entered the teaching profession. In order to supplement his teaching income, he worked part-time with his father in the practice at Biz Tax Pros. As a linguist and educator, he compiled and edited Sam’s tax book. Realizing the need for expert representation in tax audit matters, he returned to school and obtained his accounting degree. He joined Biz Tax Pros full time in 2000.
