Camp La-No-Che Merit Badge Information, 2007

The following PDF files contain some pertinent information:

Pages 9-17 have lists of the merit badges and other activities and their associated fees, prerequisites, and restrictions, if any. Merit badges are marked with an asterisk (*).

Pages 44-45 contain a form you can print that shows the time slots to fill each day.

Remember that we want to submit these choices around the 27th of March. Class sizes are limited.

The rest of the publication is good reading, too.

Our Preparation Letter:

Dear Scouts and Families,

I am sending this email to answer some questions regarding camp next week at La-No-Che.

There is a camping checklist on our website, http://www.biztaxpros.com/troop804. The direct link to the list is http://www.biztaxpros.com/troop804/Camping%20Checklist.doc. This list is always on our site for use when packing for a campout.

Below is the official La-No-Che list:

• Enough clothes for a week at camp, including plenty of socks. We do a lot of walking and blisters are common. Closed-toe shoes are to be worn at all times, and a spare pair of shoes is important.

• Field (“Class A”) uniform. A Scout should travel in field uniform, wear it to dinner each night, and have his provisional troop photograph taken in it.

• Swim suit and towels

• Long pants and a long sleeved button up shirt for boys taking any of the aquatics merit badges.

• Toilet articles: soap, toothbrush, toothpaste, comb, deodorant, etc.

• Raincoat or poncho

• Flashlight

• Insect repellent

• Sun Screen

• Pocket knife (if you have Totin' Chip)

• Compass

• Sleeping bag or sheet and blanket. We will sleep on cots. A mosquito net might make sleeping more comfortable.

• Scout handbook, merit badge books, paper, and pens

• If taking the Big Stump hike, he should bring clothes and shoes that can be thrown away after this very muddy hike.

• Spending money (No large amounts of cash)

• Locked trunk to store everything (or at least valuables). Please don’t send unnecessary items to camp that might get broken, lost, or stolen. Label everything he does bring.

This ends La-No-Che's official list. Here are my comments about that list:

•Troop 804 might take the Big Stump Hike. It will be up to the individual boys if they want to go or not.

•A mosquito net is not absolutely necessary. I've never needed one at La-No-Che.

•A trunk is not needed because we will have the trailer. Still, nothing very valuable should be brought.

•NO VIDEO GAMES!!!! Don't bring them. Leave them at home. If I see them I will take them. I can't vouch for their safety.

•Don't forget to pack extra socks and underwear. Wet socks and underwear are not fun!

•Be sure to bring your handbook. You will need it for advancement. The handbook should be with you at every camp and every meeting.

•A Bible would be a good thing to have.

We will be gathering at my house and leaving for the camp together at 11:00 on Sunday morning. Plan to have your own transportation - we are just leaving together so no one gets lost. If you cannot meet at 11:00 because of church, you can come to La-No-Che after church. The camp is 11 miles from 44 on 42. 42 is just over the Whitehair Bridge as you cross the Lake County line going over the St. John's River. If you wish to have your stuff in the trailer instead of carrying it to the campsite, get it here on Saturday or Sunday by 10:30 AM. We are staying in Site 7, called Tomoka. Check-in is between 12:00 and 3:00.

Boys must arrive at camp in their best uniform. Don't forget neckerchiefs, belts, and hats. A few boys have their rank in the wrong place (above their pocket instead of on the pocket) These should be fixed before camp. Hats worn must be scout hats while in field uniform. Uniforms are also worn to dinner each night. Our activity uniforms (t-shirts) should be ready for distribution on Sunday.

In case parents want to mail letters to their scout(s) the address is:

Scout’s name
Troop 804, Site 7 Tomoka
Camp La-No-Che
P.O. Box 323
Paisley, FL 32767

Thursday night is parents’ night. For a $6 charge each, parents are welcome to have dinner with their son and to see a special program. Cub Scouts in uniform eat free. You may purchase dinner upon arrival at the check-in pavilion next to the main parking area. Our troop meets to eat at 5:45 at the WT Bland Flag Pole.

Check-out is between 8:00 and 10:00 on Saturday morning. We will try to be ready at 10:00 for you to pick your scout up. No one may leave until the campsite has been policed and inspected.

Thank you for letting your son have the opportunity to attend camp. We are looking forward to having a great time!
